Shumka Syllabus of Ukrainian Dance Tier 1 Workshop
Kalie was just 2 years old when she started her first dance class. at Troyanda! Even at this tender age, she didn’t hesitate to show the other dancers where they needed to be on stage. Kalie graduated from Charles Spencer High School (French Immersion) in June 2025, and is taking time to explore her interests before resuming her formal education. She is excited to be teaching our younger dancers on Saturdays this season.

Ms. Kailey has been a member of Troyanda for more than 20 years, first as a dancer, then an instructor and now as Troyanda's Artistic Director. As a dancer Kailey trained under highly regarded instructors Ken Kachmar, Vincent Rees, and Paul Olijnyk. Kailey's dedication to dance led her to participate in numerous intensive summer programs across Western Canada and the U.S., where she had the privilege of learning from a diverse and talented array of teachers. In addition to her extensive background in Ukrainian dance, Kailey has studied ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern, and contemporary dance styles.
Her passion for Ukrainian dance has taken her to Ukraine multiple times, where she has studied Ukrainian dance and culture through Cobblestone Freeway's Ukrainian Dance Instructor's Tour. This experience allowed her to learn from and perform with some of Ukraine's most renowned ensembles. She had the great privilege of mentoring under Paul Olijnyk and Katrina Dumo, an experience that has significantly influenced her instructional and choreographic style.
Kailey remains committed to her professional development by attending various dance instructor workshops and training programs across Canada and the U.S. She is a certified instructor of Shumka's Syllabus of Ukrainian Dance and a Registered Teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance. She completed the RAUD Beginner & Junior Curriculum and holds several other teaching qualifications.
For over a decade, Ms. Kailey has helped shape the dancers of Troyanda, building strong technique, encouraging teamwork, and sharing her love for Ukrainian dance. We’re proud to have one of our own former dancers now leading the group. Her dedication and passion continue to drive Troyanda forward, and we’re grateful for the energy and heart she brings to everything she does.

Hi, my name is Summer Tomiak. I’ve been dancing with Troyanda since I was 6 years old, and over the years, I’ve developed a deep passion for Ukrainian dance. I began junior instructing with Ms. Kailey when I was 12, and that’s when my love for teaching really grew. In recent years, I’ve been teaching the adult group, which I’ve absolutely loved, and I’m excited to be teaching our younger dancers again this season. I’m currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Northwestern Polytechnic and will be starting my 5th year this September. After graduation, I hope to pursue a career in emergency medicine. When I’m not in school or teaching dance, I work as a medic in the oilfield, which gives me the opportunity to travel to new places for work. A couple of fun facts about me: I live with two of my best friends (who are sisters), I have a cat named Benjamin, and one day I hope to live in Iceland.
